The Holey Trinity - Are Jehovah and Jesus the Same Savior?

As you have probably noticed a lot, if you are keeping up with this blog, there is this reoccurring theme of reasoning and logic that Trinitarians love to use. You may remember the examples from The First and The Last or Is Jesus God?: since Jesus is called God then he must be the Almighty God? Of course this logic doesn't apply to Satan when he is called God at 2 Corinthians 4:4 because that isn't cohesive with proving the trinity. They like to pick and choose where to apply this logic. Which, by definition, makes it illogical. Since I have seen and heard this same reasoning a applied to being called "Savior" it seems necessary to address this as well. I don't want to leave any stone unturned in search of the truth about God.

"I, even I, am Jehovah; and besides me there is no saviour" - Isaiah 43:11 (ASV)

"But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ" - 2 Peter 3:18 (ASV)

So, since Jehovah says "besides me there is no other", and Jesus is called "our Lord and Savior" Trintarians believe that this must mean Jesus is Jehovah. Obviously though, this is not the case. Especially considering all of the other people the Bible calls "savior":

"...Jehovah raised up a saviour to the children of Israel, who saved them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother." - Judges 3:9 (ASV)

"...Jehovah raised them up a saviour, Ehud the son of Gera, the Benjamite" - Judges 3:15 (ASV)

Jehovah "raised" up these saviors, He chose them to fulfill His will and carry out His purpose. Because Jehovah chose them to be saviors, it can be said that He is the savior and these men whom He chose are saviors. Ultimately Jehovah is the savior, however, because without Him there would be no saving. As we can read, this was how Jehovah fulfilled His purpose of saving his people, by appointing men as saviors:

"...thou gavest them saviours who saved them out of the hand of their adversaries" - Nehemiah 9:27 (ASV)

Let's read this exchange between Jehovah and Gideon:

"14 Jehovah faced him and said: “Go with the strength you have, and you will save Israel out of Midʹi·an’s hand. Is it not I who send you?15 Gide·on answered him: “Pardon me, Jehovah. How can I save Israel?...16 But Jehovah said to him: “Because I will be with you..." - Judges 6:14-16 (NWT)

Jehovah had chose Gideon to save Israel from Midian. Gideon did not think of himself as a savior, but Jehovah assured him that He will be with him. Later, Gideon goes on to acknowledge:

"...I will know that you will save Israel by means of me, just as you have promised." - Judges 6:37 (NWT)

Jehovah is the one who saved Israel, but He did it "by means" of Gideon. Therefore, Gideon can correctly be called a savior even though it was Jehovah that gave him the opportunity to save.

"Title - The title ['Judges'] describes the leaders Israel had from the time of the elders who outlived Joshua until the time of the monarchy.  Their principal purpose is best expressed in 2:16: `Then the LORD [Jehovah] raised up judges who saved them out of the hands of ... raiders.'  Since it was God who permitted the oppression and raised up deliverers [saviors], he himself was Israel's ultimate Judge and Deliverer [Savior]." - New International Version Study Bible

Also, if you read 2 Kings 13:5 and Isaiah 19:20 there are others mentioned as saviors. One thing these verses all have in common is this: Jehovah is responsible for providing all of them. This shows that Jehovah is the Source of salvation and Othniel, Ehud, and Gideon are all the means by which this salvation was achieved!

Read how the Bible describes Jesus's role:

" For God sent not the Son into the world to judge the world; but that the world should be saved through him." - John 3:17 (ASV)

There's the Greek word "dia" again, but as we cancan read the world is saved "through" Jesus. He is the means by which we are saved, Jehovah made him the means. In the same way that Jehovah "raised up" the saviors in Judges, Jehovah "raised up" Jesus to be our savior.

"Because God is the initiator [source] of salvation, both he and Christ are called soter [Greek], saviour..." - The New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology

It is not overly complicated and looking at the bigger picture, it makes perfect sense. Like a puzzle perfectly fitting together where Jesus is not actually God. In effect, all of these people spoken of as saviors were all agents of salvation, acting on the behalf of Jehovah. Even Jesus was called as such:

"For it was fitting that the one for whom and through whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the Chief Agent of their salvation perfect through sufferings." - Hebrews 2:10 (NWT)

Jehovah did not contradict His words spoken at Isaiah 43:11. Jehovah was speaking in an absolute sense. As in without Him, none of those people would have been saviors. Not Othniel, not Ehud, not Gideon, not Jesus.

As the trinity unravels, the role of Jesus becomes more and more clear. Quite honestly, it starts making sense. Jehovah, in essence, is the only savior. Without him appointing those whom He has appointed to save his people throughout time, we would not be here. We owe Jehovah our lives, we owe Him our worship.

Is there a specific scripture in the Bible that you are confused about? That you think proves the trinity to be true and would like it clarified? Any questions about the trinity at all, let me know. I would be more than willing to provide the information for you, or the place where you find the information.
