The Holey Trinity - What is it exactly?

In short: confusing. Often times when I ask Trinitarians...

(Side note: Throughout this blog and future ones I will be referring to those who believe the trinity to be Trinitarians. I mean no disrespect with this term, it is not my opinion that it is disrespectful. It simply summarizes their belief in a triune God, people should be proud of what they believe.)

...to explain the Trinity I get an analogy of an egg, I get told it's a mystery and that I just need to have faith. I don't settle for these explanations. God is clearly a God of order and logic. When we look at such things as photosynthesis, the ecosystem, and the food chain it becomes obvious. The official explanation for the Trinity is as follows:

"The Trinity is the term employed to signify the central doctrine of the Christian religion — the truth that in the unity of the Godhead there are Three Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, these Three Persons being truly distinct one from another."

Thus, in the words of the Athanasian Creed: "the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God, and yet there are not three Gods but one God."

"There is therefore nothing created, nothing subject to another in the Trinity: nor is there anything that has been added as though it once had not existed, but had entered afterwards: therefore the Father has never been without the Son, nor the Son without the Spirit: and this same Trinity is immutable and unalterable forever" - Ekthesis tes Pisteos, Gregory Thaumaturgus"" (NewAdvent.org)

The latter pretty much sums it up. Within the Trinity nothing is created, nothing is subjected to another, and unchangeable. The Bible, however, says makes the opposite claim on several occasions.

Now, back to the egg analogy. As stated, not one of the 3 - Father, Son, Holy Spirit - are more God than the other one. They are all "equally God". The egg analogy explains that there are 3 parts that make up the 1 egg - shell, yolk, egg white.

"...many, if not all, of the explanations illustrating the Trinity amount to tri-theism. For instance, the common explanations of the Trinity such as "It's like one man can be a Father, husband, and son" or a "husband, wife and son all having one nature" or "an egg consists of shell, white, and yolk" or "one person consisting of soul, spirit and flesh," and etc. All these either fall into the category of tritheistic or modalistic descriptions which are heretical to Trinitarians.

Any triune parallels like fire, a plant with three leaves, water/ice/steam etc., are artificial and the comparison is faulty. Division of these constituents is not separately a conscious being. To have true argument, you must show three separately conscious but physically united beings; like a three headed snake." -
BARS-ANERGES

This explanation makes perfect sense. Furthermore is the example given of a 3-headed snake. This creature actually exists...in mythological lore anyways. It is known as a Hydra. But, just like the Trinity, it is a completely fabricated concoction of man's imagination.

I have been told many different understandings of the Trinity by different Trinitarians. The contradictions are endless. There are 2 things clear, no one truly understands the Trinity and there is no consistent belief system that these "Christians" possess. Where this is problematic is what Jesus said about an identifying mark of his true followers:

"that they may all be one. Just as you, Father, are united with me and I with you, I pray that they may be united with us, so that the world may believe that you sent me" - John 17:21 (CJB)

How can this "Christian" congregation be "one" and be "united" when they don't even understand their beliefs? Since the Trinity is never explained in scripture, how can there be a universal consistent understanding of it? Their views, opinions, and understandings of this doctrine are all different. Therefore, Trinitarians of any denomination cannot be considered "one" as Jesus told us his congregation would be.

How did the Trinity come to be then? There must be at least some scriptural basis of it for billions of people to believe it, right? Well, kind of. When you use faulty logic, lack an understanding of the Bibles original languages and completely alter the definitions of words - then yes, there can be a scriptural basis for the Trinity. But why work so hard to make the Bible fit your beliefs? Why not just base your beliefs on the Bible instead? This is a fundamental change one needs to make when searching for the truth. Something I have noticed is Trinitarians have their belief, then they force the Bible to fit those beliefs. This process is called eisegesis, which we will get into more later.

Instead of allowing their beliefs to be the clay and the Bible be the potter. They make the Bible be the clay and their beliefs are the potter. This verse from Isaiah encourages the correct way to adjust our mindset.

"But now, O Jehovah, thou art our Father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand." -  Isaiah 64:8 (ASV)

Wait, who is "Jehovah"?

Is there a specific scripture in the Bible that you are confused about? That you think proves the trinity to be true and would like it clarified? Any questions about the trinity at all, let me know. I would be more than willing to provide the information for you, or the place where you find the information.
